Sarah Forshaw
Sarah graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2001 with a BA(hons) in music, studying the flute and piano. She gained her MA in Music Therapy from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2015 and completed her 2 year Infant Observation Course with the British Psychotherapy Foundation in 2020.
Sarah specialises in working with children and young people who have experienced early-life trauma and has a particular interest in family music therapy, supporting the bonds between young children and their carers. She currently works with young people in special and mainstream settings or on an EOTIS programme, and at a Child Development Centre. Sarah also works alongside a physiotherapist supporting families with infants with complex disabilities and recently presented this work at the 2024 British Association of Music Therapy Conference in Leicester.
Incorporating other creative approaches to her work when appropriate is an important aspect of Sarah’s approach, including symbolic play, role-play, art, and writing. This year, Sarah will also complete her SandStory training to become a SandStory practitioner, enabling her to incorporate another psychological approach alongside music to support the young people she works with.
Sarah currently supervises qualified Music Therapists, and music therapy trainees from Anglia Ruskin University.
In her spare time, Sarah enjoys watching rugby and long walks with her black labrador.
